Governance & consulting

Holly's interest in governance and strategy grew when she took up her title as Music Director of Symphony Nova Scotia, attending all Board meetings, eagerly contributing to annual reports, strategic plans and artistic strategy, and learning an immense amount from her colleagues in the process.

Over the same period, she served as a Director and Co-Chair of the Board for formidAbility, the UK's first majority disability-led opera company. In that time, the company established itself as one of the most respected disability-positive arts organisations in the UK. Founder and CEO Joanne Roughton-Arnold's pioneering practice, which places accessibility at the heart of the creative process, is setting a new industry standard.

Holly was Artist-in-Association at English Touring opera from 2020-2022, contributing to discussions on equitable hiring practices and advising on diversity and artistic matters, and in 2025, she joined the Artistic Council of the OAcademy, extending a relationship with that organisation that began as a guest teacher. In that capacity, she advises on the artistic and academic goals of the academy, its place within the wider music training ecosystem, and the ways in which emerging tech might impact the educations and careers of the students.

After her Music Directorship ended in Nova Scotia, Holly accepted a role as Artistic Advisor, while the orchestra engaged in a search for a new conductor. She is delighted to continue her association with the orchestra, working alongside Director of Artistic Administration, Eric Mathis and the orchestra's new CEO, Scott Tresham to ensure continuity in the interim, and maintain a connection between programming and the orchestra's strategic plan and community-focused mission.

With a full portfolio of work and family commitments, Holly is not in a position to take on a further board position at this time, but she welcomes approaches from organisations interested in a shorter term consultancy relating to artistic programming, technology or strategic planning.
